OBAMA’S STIMULUS PLAN: WILL IT WORK OR BE A CURSE?

Published by vphipps at 7:17 pm under The economy, news Edit This

I’ve been listening to the senate debates for days and I still don’t know if the stimulus plan will work or become a curse. As they debate and ping-pong their views back and forth across my TV screen, they leave me confused. As easy as it seems to run the country from my living room, I must admit it. I don’t have a clue of what we should do.

When I listen to a conservative republican, I think he’s right, but then, just when I believe I’m convinced, a democrat will change my mind. It all depends on which view you look through and who you choose to believe at any given time.Either way, the amount of money it takes to save the USA just blows both sides of my conservative and liberal mind. If you listen to the debates, I’m sure they blow your mind too and I have no doubt that you are confused, just like me and the rest of the country. It’s just what politicians do. They confuse even the most intelligent human beings. They tend to have this serious need to be right all the time, even if their views make no sense in this day and time. You never know who’s telling the truth, so the best way to discriminate between the two sides of being right or way off base, and which side is true and wise, compared to those who don’t have a clue, is to look at the facts of the past, I assume.

If we do, there just might be a way to simplify and describe what 800 billion bucks, and then some, can do to improve the economy and our country too, or not. You see, some economists believe it will take at least a trillion dollars to save our hides and survive the economic demise. Why? I suppose it’s like a shock doctors do to a heart that stops beating. They claim a ton of cash will shock the economy into working, but they also say we’ll need to keep the blood flowing, or the beat of the economy will only stop again, and when that happens, nothing will ever shock the economy again. We’ll be out of cash to change the fact that the economy can’t work unless people work and spend what they earn.

So, who do you listen to and who tells the truth? We can’t use Obama as an excuse since he inherited the mess left by Bush. Right? In fact, the last time we had a democrat president, as dumb as he might have been in some instances, he did give the economy a boost, along with the fact that we even had a bit of left over cash after the fact of balancing the budget. So, it seems that even a loony democrat can do that, but why can’t the republicans do what even a young and dumb democrat did in the past?

The fact remains that in fact, since Bush stepped in and the republicans view was used, the economy sucks and as of today, more than a few countries hate our guts. We’ve gone from relative peace and living with ease to two or three wars and a failed economy, but who can keep up with such stuff? Besides, we’ve all lied. We’ve all believed that money grew on trees. We’ve all driven our SUV’s as if the streets were paved in gold. We got a bit arrogant and we believed that in fact, heaven, earth and the universe could and should revolve around the USA.

When we ran out of stuff, we’d say another country owed us at least that much. That’s why it’s not wise to blame the republicans for the fact that we got swept up in all that stuff we bought on credit as if money was free just because we lived in a free country. We bought homes we’d never own with back stabbing loans as if we believed one day we’d win the lottery, so let’s not wonder why we’re in this economic demise or who to blame for the facts that remain. The facts remain the same, no matter who or what we blame..

The economy still sucks and more than a few countries still hate our guts. We’re running out of gas, even if we can still afford to buy a car. If we don’t have jobs, we can’t pay for our bank loaned homes and yards. The facts remain the same, no matter who is to blame, so we need to try to find a way to create our own stuff. In addition, we’ll need to take responsibility for any facts that remain the same, even after Obama tries to save our hides and fix this economic demise. That’s why today I can honestly say that if I end up naked in the streets, the only soul I can blame is me, myself and I for the economic demise. Otherwise, the facts will remain the same for me and maybe you too. We’ll still be Americans who rant, rave and complain about the government while at the same time, we waste too much stuff and buy our American dream on loans from a bankrupt bank who spent too much on stuff we don’t need.

That’s why it seems to me that it would be insane to try to save our hides in the same way we already tried. A tax break is great, but Bush gave us those breaks all the time and the fact remains that the economy has drastically declined. If it didn’t work the first or third time, then why should we listen to the same old issues through those same old conservative views that in fact led us to where we remain today? It seems to me that any republican who refuses to listen to a new and improved view might just be a jerk who strives to try things that don’t work, just to justify their need to be, “right.”

The key for me has been to listen to those who don’t pretend to know it all. I like a guy or gal who dares to go out on a limb now and then to admit that they are as clueless as I appear to be on how to fix this economy. They could be a democrat or a republican, but they will be the types of politician who will refuse to do what they already did if it didn’t work.

The won’t be jerks, but will choose to listen to someone wiser than they will ever be, like a diverse mix of economists maybe. They’ll take both sides in mind and compensate, consider, communicate and cooperate so they won’t need to debate until it’s too late to save our hides. I don’t know about you, but it seems to me like that’s exactly what Obama is trying to do. Is that true or am I just confused? Don’t answer that place. I choose to be confused, so that I can believe both sides are right.

Don’t get me wrong. I don’t pretend to be a know it all, but I do have some common sense, so here’s the bottom line, through my confused mix of conservative and liberal sides of my mind. A price has to be paid for the big mess we made. It makes no sense to shame and blame anyone for this but us, the Americans who spend and lend too much. We’ve been a bit too arrogant for our own good, so this economic demise just might be a blessing in disguise. After all, they say, “God works in mysterious ways.” We might have been put in our place.

Maybe God wanted us to see the reality that in fact, heaven, earth and the universe does NOT revolve around us. We can’t just take another country’s stuff when we don’t think we have enough. It could even be true that in fact, the American dream is NOT all about me? Who knows? If we stick together in all kinds of stormy weather, we’ll fix the economy some day so at least our great grandchildren can say, “Hey, they finally got it right.” If we try to look through a conservative view of personal responsibility this time, we might not need the government to step in a save our hides all the time.

It could also be true that we will finally be brave enough to see beyond what makes us afraid in the USA if we choose to do what liberals do and go out on a limb now and then to do something different. No matter how scarey it may be, we’ll face what makes us afraid anyway for the sake of the USA. Besides, since wisdom comes from experience, let’s use our free will as a right to be grateful for this experience. As insane as it may seem, with a united faith, God always provides the amazing grace it takes to fix our big mistakes, so don’t blame or shame anyone.

Let’s just try something new, and when we do, let’s look through a, “YES, WE CAN,” view. With our new and improved attitudes, we might even come out on the other side even more abundantly blessed than before. We might even achieve impossible dreams when we choose to look through a view of gratitude along with a bit of dignity and grace as we admit our big mistakes. After all, stranger things have happened to the USA, so let’s pray and decide to find peace of mind with the faith it takes to actually believe that God will provide the amazing grace it takes to give Obama the wisdom it takes to save our hides.
