THE HOUSE DEBATES JOE WILSON: A MISTAKE VS A DISGRACE

Published by vphipps at 5:19 pm under news, politics Edit This

USA Today reports that the House of Representatives officially rebuked the Republican Joe Wilson on Tuesday for shouting, “YOU LIE,” to the President of the United States within our most sacred walls.

The outburst shocked the nation, but some consider him to be a hero for the GOP. Others believe that he disgraced not only the President but the House as well, and due to the fact that it’s the first time in history that any public servant has expressed such disrespect, the issue was addressed by the House of Representatives where they took out time from health care reform to debate whether or not Joe Wilson made a forgivable mistake or if he should be publically rebuked for what a few leaders of our nation choose to do.

The debate included more than a few Republican views who described the good man and American Joe Wilson has always been. They described his frustration and the passionate emotion that took control that day. They each made the same statements about him, over and over again, while on the democrat side of the House floor, they believed that tolerating the choice Joe Wilson made that day would lead to the need to tolerate even more disrespect . They claimed that it wouldn’t be wise to tolerate a mistake that disrespects the President’s rights to free speech and the way our leaders do things. The debate went on all day, but the facts remain the same. It’s not okay to disrespect the President of the United States in a place that is sacred to American values. In any other place, you can rant and rave all day. You can say the President is a nit wit and claim he lies to the people of the United States, day and night, but for any United States Representative to disrespect his leader in chief is nothing but a disgrace to the United States and the people he represents.

Then again, I personally agree with some of what the republicans expressed when they said it’s time to get over Joe Wilson’s disgrace or mistake and get on with the business of what the people need, like health care reform and fixing the economy. Still, I also agree with the side that expressed what tolerating disrespect would do more harm than good, besides the fact that what he chose to do was a way to dishonor our American values. While free speech gives you the right to claim the President lies, it’s also true that the President has the right to speak until his speech is said and done.

After that, we can rant and rave, or make ridiculous claims all day in and within a more appropriate time and place.

There are ways to fight for what we think is right without being rude, crude and socially unacceptable, so just in case any Representative cares to be aware of what the majority of the people think, please click on this link:

Sorry but the Dems booed Bush in 2005 so it was not the first time in history that disrespect was shown to a President while giving a speech to Congress. Watch the video and lets hear the outrage: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RBxmEGG71PM
